Summary

Prepare RustGIS v0.4.0 by bumping the shared workspace version and all 16 workspace lockfile entries from 0.3.0. Third-party dependencies are unchanged, and the regenerated licence notices already match.

Refresh the roadmap and landing-page highlights for shipped capabilities: terrain and planetary maps, data-cube trends and summaries, publication layouts, QGIS project/style import, reusable connections and OS keychain storage, analysis tools, Script pane completion, and 18 interface languages. Move completed work out of Underway and narrow remaining roadmap items to the work still outstanding.

Release notes and a LinkedIn announcement are prepared in the locally ignored private/ directory. Publishing follows the merge and the cross-platform release dry run.

Testing

  • CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=2 RUST_TEST_THREADS=2 cargo xtask ci
  • CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=2 uvx pre-commit run --all-files
  • cargo xtask notices (both shipped notice files already current)
  • Verified that Cargo.lock changes only workspace package versions.

The initial unrestricted test run passed the engine malformed-input regression, then hit three background-download timeouts in the UI connection-tree tests. All seven connection-tree tests passed sequentially; the complete workspace gate was rerun with two test threads.

Related issue

Release preparation; no issue.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated product and feature descriptions to reflect 18 supported languages, including Bengali, and document desktop File Geodatabases, supported QGIS projects, reusable connections, and additional mapping, cartography, analysis, layout, and publication capabilities.
    • Expanded command workflow guidance to cover Script pane completion for commands, parameters, layers, and fields.
    • Revised roadmap entries to clarify completed capabilities and planned work, including project compatibility, style imports, and service connection credential storage.

Code review

This PR is a release bump from 0.3.0 to 0.4.0 plus README, ROADMAP and docs refreshes. It changes no Rust code. I checked the version bump, the language count and the stale-reference sweep, and found no bugs, security issues or performance problems. I could only read files, so I did not run cargo xtask ci.

Bugs

  • None found. Cargo.toml's [workspace.package] version and the 16 Cargo.lock workspace entries all move from 0.3.0 to 0.4.0, and no third-party entries change.

Security

  • None. No dependencies or code paths changed.

Performance

  • None.

Quality

  • Stale "17 languages" claims (confidence: high). The PR changes the README badge, the Interface row, and the ROADMAP Done list to 18. The repository has 17 .tsv catalogs plus English, which makes 18, so the new number looks correct. Other files still say 17:
    • docs/sponsor.md:57: "ships in 17 languages"
    • docs/i18n.md:3: "available in 17 languages"
    • docs/user-guide/workspace.md:184: the "17 languages" link text
    • GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md:281: "Partial: 17 languages"
  • GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md:3 still says "Last reviewed: 2026-10-23 (v0.3.0)" (confidence: low). This may be deliberate if that file is reviewed on its own schedule. If it is reviewed with the roadmap, bump it too.
  • Mixed ROADMAP wrapping (confidence: low). The rewrap of the Done list is fine. A few lines, such as the AI Assistant bullet, run past the 100-column width used elsewhere.

AGENTS.md

  • Nothing is violated. No code, assets or dependencies changed, so the deny.toml and cargo xtask notices requirements don't apply beyond what the PR description already states. The roadmap shortens the Underway list (Script pane completion, connection manager, zonal statistics and "No fill" polygons move to Done), which matches CONTRIBUTING's request to keep it current.

GitHub Pages takes a minute or two to publish a new commit.

- Correct the incomplete README data-import phrase flagged by CodeRabbit.
- Replace four stale language counts and add Bengali to the language table to match all 18 registered languages, as noted by Claude.
- Wrap the roadmap AI Assistant bullet within the existing line width, as noted by Claude.

Addressed the Claude review summary in 50e28f6: updated all four stale language counts to 18, added Bengali to the language table, and wrapped the roadmap AI Assistant bullet within 100 columns. The language table now matches the full registered language set. The GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md review stamp remains unchanged intentionally: this follow-up checks the language claim, rather than re-auditing the entire comparison. Validation passed: CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=2 RUST_TEST_THREADS=2 cargo xtask ci, plus pre-commit on the six changed files.

Code review

This PR only changes version numbers and documentation. The release bump and the "18 languages" updates look consistent, and I found no bugs or security problems. I read pr-context/diff.patch in full and checked a few claims against the code.

I did not build or run anything.

What I checked

  • Version bump: the shared workspace version and the 16 workspace entries in Cargo.lock all go from 0.3.0 to 0.4.0. The diff shows no third-party dependency changes, which matches the PR description.
  • Language count:
    • crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/ has 17 .tsv catalogs plus English, which makes 18. That matches the updated README badge, docs/i18n.md, docs/sponsor.md, docs/user-guide/workspace.md, ROADMAP.md and GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md.
    • The new Bengali row in the docs/i18n.md table is well-formed.
    • A grep for leftover "17 languages" or "languages-17" strings finds nothing outside the diff itself.
  • Code paths: none of the AGENTS.md code rules (no unwrap, no wasm breakage, translatable strings) apply. No Rust source changed.

Bugs

  • None found.

Security

  • None found.

Performance

  • Not applicable.

Quality

  • Nit (low confidence): the README table rows are very long single lines, and the "Data" row now holds many items. That is the existing style, so I'm not asking for a change.
  • Nit (low confidence): ROADMAP.md was rewrapped in places, such as the Done list. That makes the diff noisier than the content change, but it is harmless.

AGENTS.md

  • No violations. This is a docs and version change, so the layering, wasm and ATTRIBUTION.md rules aren't affected. The THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.txt files shouldn't need a refresh because no dependency changed. I didn't verify that by running cargo xtask notices; the PR description says it was run.

Code review

This PR bumps the version from 0.3.0 to 0.4.0 and refreshes the docs and roadmap. I found nothing to raise inline, and I ran no code or tests.

Checks

  • Version bump: the diff has 16 matching version = "0.3.0" → "0.4.0" lines in Cargo.lock, which fits the PR's claim of 16 workspace entries. The Cargo.toml change is one line. The diff shows no changes to third-party dependency versions, so deny.toml and the notices shouldn't be affected.
  • Language count: the docs now say 18 languages. The repo has 17 crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/*.tsv catalogs, one of them bn.tsv (Bengali). Counting English as the 18th, the count is consistent. It appears in README.md (badge and table), docs/index.md and docs/i18n.md.
  • AGENTS.md: the PR touches only docs and the version, so the "never crash", wasm, i18n and asset rules don't apply. It adds no images or assets; screenshots are linked from the external assets repo.
  • Roadmap: this is prose only, so I could not check it for correctness. It matches the PR description, with completed items moved out of Underway.

Bugs

None found.

Security

None found.

Performance

Not applicable.

Quality

  • Release timing (low confidence): the PR description notes the CI run needed a sequential rerun after three timeouts in the UI connection-tree tests. These look like load-related flakiness, not a regression from this PR. Consider tracking them separately.

AGENTS.md

No violations.
